What to do after an accident?

Immediately after an accident take the following steps

1. TURN OFF THE IGNITION OF YOUR VEHICLE and, if necessary, MOVE IT to a safe position OUT OF HARM’S WAY. The law requires that you stop at the accident scene.

2. Check all involved parties for injuries. If necessary, call 911 for medical assistance.

3. Contact the police. By reporting the accident to the police and filing a report, you will help protect yourself from potential liability claims and legal action.

A POLICE REPORT IS REQUIRED IF THE ACCIDENT INVOLVES A HIT AND RUN VEHICLE, AND RECOMMENDED IF ANYONE WAS INJURIED or if it is apparent that liability will be disputed. WHEN POLICE ARE PRESENT AT THE ACCIDENT SCENE OBTAIN the police officer's name, phone number, and the police report number.

4. If your vehicle is not drivable, call a towing company to move your vehicle. OBTAIN the name, address, and phone number of the towing company.

5. As soon as possible, contact MAPFRE to report the accident.
